Set Your Heights on the Horizon

As we near the end of January, we might find ourselves starting to lose a bit of steam on our goals.  We started out strong but have found ourselves starting to lose interest.  We’re becoming stagnant, complacent, questioning what’s the point.  When these situations arise, it’s time to reevaluate our WHY.  Why do we want to achieve said goal?  Too many times we state “I’m doing it for my family.”  “I’m doing it for my child.”  These sentiments are all well and good and can be extremely motivating, but in end, your “WHY” needs to include yourself.  “I’m doing it for me!”  I know for a lot of people this phrase seems selfish and I understand that.  In fact I’ve found myself in the same train of thought over the years.  I’ve been afraid of failing at something because I didn’t want to let other people down and by doing this, it caused me to distance myself from those that I love and admire because I didn’t want to see their disappointment in me.  It took me some time to realize that it’s okay to have goals that I want to achieve that are for ME!  That’s not saying that my family can’t be a major motivation for me to be successful, it absolutely can and should be!  But you need to be at the center of what drives you.  Give yourself the permission to want!  Let YOUR desire ignite you!  And remember, you doing something for yourself doesn’t mean you’re not doing it for your family too.  If you’re successful, then your family and others around you will reap the benefits as well.  Set YOUR heights on the horizon!  Don’t lose sight of YOUR destination!
