Did you know the reason i do what i do is because I love seeing people succeed where they didn’t think they could.
Believe it or not, I went through a phase of my life where it was all about ME ME ME! I didn’t want to be bothered with what other people thought or wanted. All that mattered was what I wanted and needed. After a while that becomes very unfulfilling. Life becomes unfulfilling. I needed to find a way to give back.
Personal training for me was actually something that I did just to make some money when I was in my early 20s. It was just a job and that’s it. I had other goals and dreams and this was just a way to pay the bills while I chased my dreams. But something happened that changed everything.
At a gym in Astoria Queens NY, I was just finishing up with a client. After the session, we were chatting and I noticed that she was starting to become emotional, then she wrapped her arms around my neck and started crying.
You see, what was just a paycheck to me, was everything to her. She had lost 30lbs over the past 3 months. She had been trying for years to lose the weight and could never budge the scale. What was just a paycheck to me was her changing her life forever!
That changed everything for me. The feeling of helping someone achieve their goals and helping them realize what is possible helped me realize what’s possible myself. It also helped me realize what’s important in life.
It got me thinking about what do I want to be my legacy when I’m no longer here on this earth.
There’s a country song, “Three Wooden Crosses” from Randy Travis that has the lyrics,
"It's not what you take when you leave this world behind you, It’s what you leave behind you when you go”
That’s why I do what I do!
What do you want your legacy to be?
